Things like this happened almost everyday

Well, I remember a time when I was 7 or 8
It was dark and I knew it was late
I woke up to my dad crying at the side of my bed
He smelt of liquor, something wasn't right
What'd he do, he was quite a sight
He told me then that he wasn't the best dad
First that made me really sad
Then I got really mad
I knew then he had done my momma wrong
As I look back on that night
I'm glad I know my wrong from right
I decided then I would never be like him

By the time I was 20, I had no money
I was cold and had nobody
I was homeless living out on the streets
Now around this time I met my wife
I'll tell you what, she saved my life

She gave me a reason to strive for a better life
I'd find a crash pad, get a job
Get a car, then lose it all
This is a pattern that repeated for many years
I worked real hard, put myself through school
Tried to be a corporate fool
But now my backs shot and I can't work no more
They called me white trash
